Barcelona - The Culture

Youth culture, Catalan culture, Spanish culture, tourist culture - cities are complex things, and one always experiences them in a different way to anyone else. So we have the tourists, whose trips to Gaudí monuments and historic buildings, follow different patterns to the Spanish-speaking suburbs. And who can forget the majority of the Catalan-speaking middle class, whose visits to the Palau de la Musica and La Pallaresa are rarely copied by anyone else. But there are similarities too, and whereas on my first few trips I went to look at the "Sights" I now rarely see La Rambla or Plaça Catalunya - indeed I'm more like to be found in the local library or bookshop, showing how with time my patterns have becomes far closer to that of a native. Culture is a malleable thing.
