Castell Coch

As a resident of Cardiff it would be almost impossible to miss the turrets and towers of the majestic Castell Coch (red castle), which is to be found on the outskirts of the north of the city. It's a wonderful building, site of an old castle which was remodelled and rebuilt in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Apart from the lovely walk to get to the castle, along the Taff trail by a meandering wooded river, it is the delight of seeing the Welsh/English mixed signs which brings this to my blog. In the picture you can see the "ffordd yma" which means "this way" in Welsh, one of many bilingual signs found throughout the castle, and indeed throughout Wales (in accordance with the law). A minority language needs representation, support and use in order to survive, and this is one small example of how that can successfully happen.

Hwyl (bye)!
