New Beginnings

So a whole year without a post! I've gone from working in a pub and learning languages in my spare time, to working in a restaurant, doing a full-time masters and learning languages in my space time. My language skills have improved in this last year, with my German benefiting from a year's tutoring at the Cardiff School of Lifelong Learning. I've been reading a lot of language forums recently and people seem to do a lot of their language learning alone, but as communication is the whole point of language I think it's better to join a class. Or do both!

I also managed to pass the DELE B2 Spanish Diploma, which was cool, since I'll be needing to build up the language certificates in order to progress in academia (I start a PhD in October). This year I've concentrated on German a lot, and in fact have just come back from a lovely week in Hamburg (so eine schöne stadt!). I realised that I could understand a lot, but also that I need to continue learning a lot more!

Anyway, I'll be posting much more frequently now, every time I spot something interesting concerning languages!

Tschüss!

  1. The best method for me is to do class learning combined with self-study to fill in the gaps of the language course. This assures that I will study my language all the time throughout the year and not forget a lot during the holiday breaks. But my self-study has been very recent only, I have much more experience with class learning.
