I'm currently reading "Unten am Fluß", or "Watership Down" in German. Having never read a book in German before (It's my third language!) I didn't know quite what to expect, how hard it would be etc. So I just set out with a dictionary translating as I went. I've been teaching myself German for a year and more and I decided it was time to finish with the grammar and the textbooks and start reading in it. It took me two days and 6 sessions to finish the first chapter, which is quite a lot! But I felt much better for the process, learning verbs such as "Knabbern - to nibble" and "Gehege - warren". Bunny language, so to speak! I wonder what books other people choose for their first forays into foreign literature?
Auf Deutsch...
