Classes, Classes, Classes

I have a busy timetable this semester (the first one of my Ph.D). Not only do I attend the stipulated training courses for my doctorate, but I'm also part of three different language classes - not that I'm complaining. I'm doing two language courses at the University's School of Lifelong Learning (Spanish and German - both advanced) and sitting in on Catalan classes (beginner) which are provided to language students in my department. It's busy, but good, and I know that I'm not only building my current capabilities but also setting myself up well for the future. The odd thing that strikes me is the lack of interest in languages here. It's not quite that it's strange, I know that brits generally don't like to learn languages, but that it's sad. Oh well, maybe the recession will force people to look at their skills and choices?
